WHAT ARE THE BEST BLUETOOTH SPEAKERS IN 2022?

  • by

It’s not that easy to figure out. There are a lot of Bluetooth speakers on the market, and it can be hard to tell which ones are good and which ones are bad. Also, it’s hard to compare more than a few speakers at a time in your local electronics store because there aren’t that many to choose from.
We’ve been able to get some of the best Bluetooth speakers and portable speakers for use at home and on the go. Most of them have been tested and reviewed, and we put this list of the best ones together to make sure you get the most for your money.

List of the Best Bluetooth Speakers in 2022

1. MINIRIG 3.0 – THE BEST-SOUNDING PORTABLE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER

 1. MINIRIG 3.0 - THE BEST-SOUNDING PORTABLE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Best build quality in its class
  • Very loud and free of distortion
  • Amazing bass
  • Can connect to other Bluetooth speakers to make a surround sound system
  • There is a separate subwoofer for the very loud bass.

If you can afford it, I really can’t say enough good things about the new Minirigs 3.0. This Bluetooth speaker is the best one I’ve ever used, and I take it with me everywhere I go.

It’s the best travel speaker I’ve ever used because it’s louder than any other speaker its size. It can do this without making any changes to the image. The bass response is also great, and it’s perfect for electronic music and rap.

When a single large, very high-level diaphragm is put inside the Minirig 3.0, the sound is amazing. Other companies try to get a stereo effect by using multiple smaller and lower-quality drivers, but it’s clear that this doesn’t work as well. The way to go is with single-driver minirigs.

The 3.0 also has a great 100-hour battery life, which is the best in the test, and the best build quality and design in its class. The barrel-shaped charger was the only thing we didn’t like. USB-C would be a much better choice. But that’s okay because no other Bluetooth speaker sounds even close to as good as this one.

In a daisy-chain setup, the Minirig 3 can be used with a subwoofer and other Minirig speakers to make them sound very loud. Oh, and you can choose from 8 different colors to make them fit your style.

2. HARMAN KARDON ONYX STUDIO 4

 2. HARMAN KARDON ONYX STUDIO 4

FEATURES:

  • Two connections
  • Sound at the top of the line
  • Stunning design
  • Smart assistant enabled

A beautiful home speaker that sounds great and is made by one of the best speaker companies in the world. When put on a bedside table or kitchen counter, the onyx looks beautiful. It looks exactly like you would expect from one of the most stylish speaker brands in the world, but it also sounds great.

It works with both Google Assistant and Siri, and you can link several speakers together wirelessly to make a sound system that works in more than one room. I used this method more than once to play the same music in my living room, kitchen, and patio. It worked perfectly each time.

In tests, the battery lasted about 8 hours, but it can be charged quickly to 80 percent in about an hour. But most people who buy this speaker will use it at home, since something like the Minirig, which was mentioned above, is better for traveling.

3. THE ULTIMATE EARS WONDERBOOM 2

 3. THE ULTIMATE EARS WONDERBOOM 2

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES

  • A Cool Design
  • Waterproof
  • Hanging loop
  • It can work as a stereo speaker
  • Ultimate Ears is one of the most well-known consumer brands of Bluetooth speakers in the world. They try to make products that are fun, well-thought-out, and work well with an active lifestyle.

The Wonderboom 2 is their best portable speaker to date, and it has many features that make it a great travel speaker.

First of all, the sound is great. It’s not as polished as the Minirigs 3, but it’s loud and has a good bass response for how small it is.

It also has a great, hard-wearing cloth exterior, so it won’t show scratches like a plastic speaker would, and I really like the big volume control buttons on the outside.

It has an IPX67 rating, which means it can withstand water and dust. It will also float if you throw it in the pool.

You can also clip the speakers to things with the lanyard loop at the top, and you can connect two speakers together to get a true stereo experience.

In our tests, the battery lasted for 12 hours, which is good but not great. When you run out of power, you’ll be glad to know that there’s a “fast-charge” feature that lets you charge it quickly.

4. CLIP JBL 4

 4. CLIP JBL 4

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Really, really small
  • Waterproof
  • Built-in carabiner clip

The UE Roll 2 and the JBL Clip 4 look very similar, but the JBL Clip 4 is much smaller and lighter. Its sound won’t blow you away, but for how small it is, it’s amazing and much louder than any of our phones.

One of the smallest speakers on this list did do a few cool things that made us really like it. We thought the built-in carrying clip was a joke at first, but we ended up using it all the time when we went camping and traveling. I found that when I didn’t have my backpack, I could clip it to one of the molly straps or a belt loop.

It has an IP68 rating, which is better than the IPX7 rating of the previous model, so you don’t have to worry about leaving it outside. The speaker can even be fully submerged for a short time.

The body is very light and strong, so if you don’t want to use the built-in carabiner, you can just throw it in a bag.

The sound is great for its size, but the low end starts to get a little thin. But if you’re coming from clip R, this is a big step up because clip 4’s larger diaphragm driver is much louder. Only 10 hours of playback on a single charge wasn’t great, but that’s 2 more hours than we got with the JBL Clip 3, and now we have fast charging and a USB-C cable as improvements.

It’s cool. It’s neat. Costs little.

5. SOUNDLINK MICRO BOSE

 5. SOUNDLINK MICRO BOSE

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Great design and construction
  • Good sound with a good amount of bass
  • Having a battery life of only 6 hours is very bad.

Last year, we did a full review of the Soundlink Micro and loved it. Bose made a good little Bluetooth speaker that sounds better than the JBL Clip 3 above and the UE2 roll that was on this list before. It costs a little bit more, though.

We liked the tough rubber finish on the Soundlink micro, which we think will do a great job of keeping it safe. This is yet another waterproof speaker, and like the others, it has a strap that you can use to hang it up or carry it.

The Bose Soundlink Micro can only hold a charge for a total of 6 hours, which is one of the worst we’ve seen at any price point.

6. The JBL FLIP 5 is cheap and loud.

 6. The JBL FLIP 5 is cheap and loud.

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • It sounds good
  • Great value for the money
  • The battery life is almost unusable.

The JBL Flip 5 is one of the best values on the list because it was hard to find anything wrong with it for the price. But, just like the Bose Soundlink, it has a terrible battery life. One charge only lets you listen to music for 5 hours.

That’s too bad, because the way it sounds and how it’s made make it seem like it should cost a lot more.

Even if you are on a tight budget, it is still a good buy because it has good sound and can be turned up very loud without distorting.

7. BANG & OLUFSEN BEOPLAY A1

 7. BANG & OLUFSEN BEOPLAY A1

  Get it now on Amazon.com

Features

  • Gorgeous design
  • Sound quality at the top of the line
  • A lot of money
  • IPX7 Waterproofing

Bang & Olufsen makes high-quality speakers, so it’s not surprising that their portable travel speakers have a price tag that makes your eyes water.

But you can tell because the Beoplay A1 is by far the best-looking speaker we tested.

The sound is amazing because it can send music in all directions, and it can get very loud without getting distorted.

When played at a moderate volume, the A1’s battery life will easily last more than 20 hours, making it the second-best device on this list.

One thing the first-generation Beoplay A1 really lacked was a way to keep water and dust out. The IPX7 rating is the best thing about this new 2nd-generation model. It makes it a real travel speaker that can be used anywhere.

8. HOUSE OF MARLEY BAG OF RIDDIM 2

 8. HOUSE OF MARLEY BAG OF RIDDIM 2

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Nice places to live
  • Included carrying strap
  • Very loud and deep
  • Nice places to live

The House of Marley Bag of Riddim 2 is great because it is a modernized version of an old-school ghetto blaster. The speaker is one of the best-looking full-size models on this list, and it looks great in any house with a light wood finish.

It comes with a case that has a shoulder strap so you can take it to parties, parks, etc. The sound is full-bodied, has deep bass, and is very loud.

This speaker can also get wet, and it has a great 2-year warranty.

9. JBL BOOMBOX 2 – THE BEAST Speaker

 9. JBL BOOMBOX 2 - THE BEAST Speaker

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Portable full-size sound system
  • The sound is great for a portable speaker
  • Waterproof
  • Extreme Bass

The Boombox 2 is the way to go if you really want a portable speaker with a big sound. The idea for the JBL came from the boomboxes of the 1980s. It’s a big beast of a speaker, but the sound it makes is crazy loud.

The unit is a full-size speaker with a battery that lasts for a whopping 24 hours. Like the other speakers on this list, it is waterproof, so don’t worry if it gets left outside after the party is over.

Not only is it the loudest speaker we tested with the best bass, but it also has a couple of tricks up its sleeve. The JBL Boombox 2 can be used to charge your phone from an outside source, and it can also be linked to other speakers to make a surround sound system.

10. ANKER SOUNDCORE FLARE 2 Speaker

 10. ANKER SOUNDCORE FLARE 2 Speaker

  Get it now on Amazon.com

FEATURES:

  • Some of the best sound for less than $100
  • IPX5 certified for use outside
  • The battery life is amazing
  • The Anker Soundcore Flare 2 is one of the best travel speakers because it really can’t do much wrong.

Its price is perfect and makes a lot of big-name speaker companies look pretty stupid.

You get a long battery life and IPX5 certification, which means that water and dust can’t get in. There are even lights that flash to the beat of the music.

The sound is loud and clear, and the bass actually has some depth to it, which is different from most cheap rattles.

FAQs

HOW BIG SHOULD A WIRELESS SPEAKER BE?

This list will have three different kinds of Bluetooth speakers.

First, there will be small Bluetooth speakers that we think are very portable. These are the kinds you want to take with you when you travel or go on vacation. They are small, lightweight, and tough.

Second, we want to talk about speakers that are about the size of a bag or backpack. We think these can be moved. When I say “in a bag,” I don’t mean that you have to fill up your whole backpack. The idea behind these speakers is that you can bring them with you when you travel. Most of the time, these give up some portability for a fuller sound and longer battery life.

Third, we’ll suggest full-size Bluetooth speakers made for use at home. Most of the time, these plug into the wall, but they also have batteries so you can move them from room to room. Most of the time, they have the most features and sound the best.

Before you buy Bluetooth speakers, you should think about where and how you will use them. For example, if you think you’ll be traveling a lot, do you really want to carry something big, bulky, and heavy? On the other hand, if you can fit a bigger speaker in your luggage, would it be worth it to have better sound when you get there?

If you want to buy a wireless speaker to use at home or when you are traveling, camping, or hiking, there are a lot of great options below for every budget.

BEFORE YOU BUY A BLUETOOTH SPEAKER, HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT!

This list wasn’t easy to make because there are so many great things to do in 2022. When we buy something, we don’t just look at how it sounds. We also look at a lot of other things that we think are important. So, if you want to choose the best wireless speaker for your needs, you might want to know what we think is important.

Over the years, I’ve had a lot of speakers, so I have a clear idea of what I think makes the best ones. What’s best for you might be very different from what’s best for someone else, but here are some important things to think about before buying.

  • Quality of sound – Think about how you listen to music (loud, bassy, etc.)
  • Quality of Construction: Are you hard on your gear?
  • Size – Large, Medium, or Small. What do you want?
  • Number of Charges – How long are you going to hear? How long will it last? How quick is the charge?
  • Extra features: SD card slots, can be used as a portable battery bank, can connect to an external DAC, has remotes, etc. You might find these extra features important and useful.
  • Sound Quality – Which Bluetooth speaker has the best sound?
  • By far, the most frequent question we get about this is:

Which Bluetooth speaker sounds the best?

The answer to this question can depend on size and price, but if you look hard enough and do your research, you can find cheap speakers that sound great. I think the Minirigs 3.0 is by far the best speaker for its size in terms of sound. It’s my favorite Bluetooth speaker because of how well it balances all of the above things.

We like the IK Multimedia iLoud speaker for use at home. Even though it might not look like the best speaker, it did better in our tests than many well-known brands like Bose and Creative.

BUILD QUALITY: WHICH BLUETOOTH SPEAKER WILL LAST THE LONGEST?

It’s important to build well. Especially if you want to take your speaker with you. A speaker who travels will have a much harder life than a speaker who never leaves their home.

Over time, these speakers are bound to get a few bumps, so you want something sturdy. So, we need high-quality building materials and a strong chassis to start with. But we shouldn’t forget about things like waterproofing, strong control buttons, and finishes that won’t get scratched.

Build is still important when it comes to wireless home speakers. But looks are much more important. Most people will want a speaker that looks nice and fits in with the rest of their home decor.

SIZE – A QUESTION OF PORTABILITY

I already mentioned this, but size is important, and it’s not just about how you plan to carry the speaker. A lot of the other things we listed depend a lot on size.

Most of the time, smaller speakers have a smaller driver, which means that the sound quality is usually worse.

Bonus features will also be harder to find in small, lightweight speakers because they have less space to store them.

Last, size usually has a big effect on how long a battery will last. Again, this is just common sense. The smaller the housing, the less room there is for a big battery, which means the speaker won’t last as long between charges.

BATTERY LIFE – WHAT BLUETOOTH SPEAKER HAS THE BEST BATTERY LIFE?

Since I assume most of you will use the speaker with Bluetooth, battery life should be a big part of your decision. So, to make this list of the best portable speakers, I set a minimum of 8 hours of playback from a single charge for portable and transportable models and a minimum of 6 hours for wireless home speakers.

In my opinion, these are the bare minimum numbers, and 10+ hours is the bare minimum for a good battery life. Be aware that when you add better parts, the battery life will get shorter. It may be the most important thing to look at when comparing Bluetooth speakers.
